RV Resorts/Parks We've Stayed At

Outdoor Resorts At Gatlinburg (Gatlinburg, TN)
Overall rating 4/5
$$$

Check-in: 1pm

Check-out: 12pm

Site needed leveling.

Park features: Back-in sites, pets allowed, big rig access, code to get in, kid friendly.

Hookups: Full hookup, electric 50 AMP, electric 30/20/15 AMP, sewer, Cable/Satellite TV hookup, water.

Amenities: Restrooms, showers, laundry, small camp store, pet areas, propane available, cafe, firewood available, picnic areas, trash pickup.

Recreation: Pool, playground, recreation room, fishing, mini-golf, outdoor courts, water access.

Service: If you have Verizon you won't have the best of service. ATT was in and out. Our host had really good internet that we used because our hotspot wasn't working here. The park has internet too but it's not the best.

We didn't book this through their website. We booked this on Hipcamp and I noticed when we were checking in that a lot of other people booked this through Airbnb. This place doesn't seem like they have available spots for rent unless you're looking for monthly, seasonal, yearly. So I'd suggest looking on Hipcamp or Airbnb to book.

The site we booked!

Each site has a fire ring, picnic table, concrete pad/patio

This park is extremely nice. You check-in at their front office and they'll give you a map and mark your site. Then you'll get the gate code and you're on your way. This park is basically in the mountains so getting there is a little tricky. Lots of tight roads, hills and turns. The park itself has a lot of hills and turns. Backing into some of these sites seems nearly impossible lol. Not all of them, but a decent amount. Our site was tricky but manageable. A very quiet park and a tight community.

The cafe has all of your basic breakfast and lunch needs. The service is a little slow but the ladies are super nice and do the best they can. The food is good and decently prices. Before entering the cafe they have a little camp store with basic camping needs.

There's mountain creeks running through the sites with a few access points. The sound of the water is super relaxing. The lake is stocked with fish and has two access points.

They come by and pickup trash from 9am-3pm. No trash pickup on holidays.

The laundry room is still the nicest one I've been to lol. Change machine, lots of machines, you can use a credit card, the dryers are huge and efficient, big area to fold clothes, magazines, few chairs, rolling carts.

Gatlinburg is 12 miles away. Grocery store is about 8 miles away. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park (you need a parking pass now and the local store sells them) is right across the street. This entrance will lead you to Ramsey Cascades and a few other trails. Cosby is 8 miles away and a smaller town. Less people and still with a few tourist like things to do. Cosby campground also has really nice hiking trails.

**You have to pay per pet, even if you have cats. There's a few dog areas throughout the park.

Magical Mountain Resorts (on Hipcamp as Enchanted Forest) - Hayesville, NC
Overall rating 4/5
$$$

Check-in: 2pm

Check-out: 12pm

Site needed leveling.

Park features: Back-in sites, pets allowed, kid friendly, cabin rentals.

Hookups: Electric 50 AMP, electric 30/20/15 AMP, water, dump station on your way out (not onsite)

Amenities: Firewood available, community fire pits **They're working on bathrooms and a laundry room. There's a port-a-potty if you don't have your own toilet.

Recreation: Hammocks, swings, fishing, water access, trails, chess, checkers, sand box, fairy garden, themed campsites.

Service: There's Starlinks that you can hookup to and use. So then you'll have wifi and wifi calling. Service is really bad out here. But Hayesville is such a cute little town. I believe that it's worth it and it's a nice peaceful getaway.

You can book on their website or on Hipcamp.

Each site has a fire ring and picnic table.

This is a newer campground and they are still working on a few things. The owners are super friendly and helpful. They go above and beyond for whatever you might need.

The campground itself has a few trails, waterfall, and creek. There's a nice community area and you're surrounded by Alice in Wonderland themes, Harry Potter, Candy Land, so on. The owners pay attention to every detail. This really is a magical place.

You're close to the Nantahala National Forest which has a bunch of trails and waterfalls. Lots of rafting, canoe, kayaking places. There's a nearby brewery, Hayesville Brew, Eagle Fork Vineyards, Tusquittee Tavern. Hayesville is a small town and they usually have small events at the square and nice places to eat.

Lake Chatuge is nice to check out. The mountains here are a lot better than the Smokies in our opinion. Way less people and still a bunch to do and beautiful scenery all around.

**Getting here is little difficult with the sharp turns and hills. But the roads aren't busy so you won't feel rushed and can take your time.

Riverside RV Resort (Robertsdale, AL)

Check-in: 1pm

Check-out: 11am

Site needed some leveling.

Park features: Pull through sites, back-in sites, river sites, big rig access, kid friendly, group camping.

Hookups: Full hookup, electric 50 AMP, electric 30/20/15 AMP, sewer, Cable/Satellite TV hookup, central water spigot, water.

Amenities: restroom, showers, launry, pety area, firewood available, picnic area.

Recreation: water access, community deck with TV, grills, fire pit.

Service: If you have Verizon you won't have any service. ATT worked here and there. The campground has wifi and it's pretty decent. We were able to use our hotspot here and there. We found ourselves switching to the park wifi and our hotspot.

You can book on their website

Each site has a concrete pad/patio.

The owners here are also super friendly and helpful. We arrived two hours early and it wasn't a big deal. We were able to check-in and get to our site. This was probably because they were just entering busy season and no one was at our site to begin with. I'd call ahead if you do end up arriving early. They'll take you to your site by golf cart and help direct you into your site if you need help.

The Styx River is right onsite. Grab a chair and go sit and relax in the water. There's a float service right up the street where you can rent floats and go on the river for a couple of hours. So while you're sitting and relaxing a lot of floater will pass you lol. they advertise having potlucks and live music on weekends. We were either too early in the season or not onsite when these things were happening.

The laundry room and bathrooms have keypads on them so you'll need the code to get in. The laundry room is basic. Has a change machine and a few machines. A large sitting area.

The bathrooms are really clean and kept up with. They said that laundry and bathrooms close at 9pm. We didn't have to use their bathrooms but they're in the same area as the laundry. So I'm not sure what happens if you have to go after 9pm lol.

The people who stay here seasonal and all year round aren't the nicest. A lot of people ignore you and I got the vibes that they felt like we were taking over their campground. Not everyone is like this but I never experienced this at a campground so it was a bit strange.

We found a screw in our tire on our way checking out. The owner and one of the yearly guests helped Joe change the tire. So not everyone is rude lol.

There's a cute truck stop down the road that has a diner attached to it. We wanted to try it out but didn't get around to it. We heard good things about the diner though! Mobile is a 30 minute drive and so is Pensacola. If you want to go to Pensacola Beach I'd take the toll bridge so that it's only an hour instead of 1hr 30 minutes. Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are also pretty close.

Some other things to do that are nearby (but we didn't do/have time for): Alabama Scenic River Trail, Alligator Alley, Bellingrath Gardens and Home, Gulf State Park, Fort Morgan Historic Site, Waterville USA, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Tanger Outlets. LOTS of seafood restaurants so do some research or ask locals what the favorite is! There's also a garage right down the street that works on RVs and trailers. Convenient if anything happens to go wrong!

Robertsdale is not touristy and there's not many people here either. Peace and quiet (for the most part, some people blast music while in the river but it never lasts long and it's not bad music lol)

**There's another campground directly before Riverside so just make sure you're paying attention.

You can book on their website

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, concrete pad/patio, and it's own little "backyard"

This is the first Good Sam campground we've stayed at. It was super nice. Fenced in. Decent spots for being close together. The people working were super nice and helpful. They'll give you a map and draw your spot. Then someone will come in a golf cart and show you to your spot. They'll ask if you need guidance with backing up, hooking up water, electric, or sewer. They also pickup your trash everyday 8am-4pm.

There's a lake that you can fish in, rent pedal boats, kayaks, or "party" rafts. They have concessions, game room, a pool and playground.

The laundry room needs some maintenance. Some of the machines are falling apart and a lot of them don't do the greatest job of cleaning or drying. They're on the cheaper side though. No change machine but you can get change at the front desk during business hours. It's a small laundry room. This was the busiest one I've been to. Usually I have the laundry room to myself.

The camp store is decently stocked with everything you need. RV supplies, decorations, beer, food, water, toiletries.

We had to cut this trip short so we ended up only staying two nights instead of three. There's a lot to do here. You're away from a major city so it's not crazy over here. But you're next to the state highway which isn't a huge deal because it's not busy at all. You can only hear noise when a semi is flying by. We were right against the highway as well. I'm sure further in the park you won't hear anything.

There's plenty of gas stations, fast food, places to eat, and grocery around the area. New Orleans is about one hour away. Baton Rogue is a 30 minute drive. Camping World is right off the highway exit coming to the park. We recommend going to Oak Alley Plantation along the Mississippi River. Gorgeous grounds and a look into slaves and slave owners. This is in Vacherie and is also a hour drive. Lots of seafood places not too far out and some airboat tours.

The humidity here is much different from any humidity we've ever been in lol. We'd recommend going from November-February.

**If you're coming from I-10 be careful! We recommend going 55mph or else you're going to blow a trailer tire. It was crazy how many trailers and small cars we saw pulled over changing tires. There were also civilians in vans with trailers just hauling people to tire shops/body shops (I'm assuming since the tires were blown out) The whole side of the road was a graveyard for tires. When we stopped for gas Joe checked on our spare tire and the tire pressure was 80+ (when we left Alabama we were at 65) He decided to check the rest, same thing. So we let some air out and stayed at 55-60mph while on I-10. I have no real explanation for this other than the heat and the type of tires trailers have?? It was literally insane lol.

Don't mind Cherry being a bad girl.
