Good Ol' Elvis
We wouldn't call ourselves huge Elvis fans. Nothing like the crazy ones that tried digging up his body and what not. But I do like Elvis and his story. His music is nice too. Takes me back to a time I didn't have the pleasure of living through.
Today was Elvis day. Graceland is about 46 miles from us but we had no interest in that. Lots of people and not too interesting. Memphis is also not the best. So we went to his birthplace in Tupelo which is 52 miles away. I had the cat camera on the entire time because it started to storm by us (wasn't in the forecast until we were twenty minutes on the road 😑) Like all of the storms here, it lasted 30 minutes, called for thunderstorms the rest of the day but went on its way. The weather here has been ridiculous. We got to his birthplace and they had closed the church since it was 3pm and everything closes at 4pm. But there was a tour going on and they were doing a presentation for them at 3:30 and we were Abel to join. We went to his house first. Which is still the same house as he grew up in. Never moved. Then to the church he was raised in and began to sing in. He loved gospel music. The church was brought to the property. They had to restore it while some sections of the flooring were original. We went back into the building to do the little part of the museum that they had. The gift shop was pretty big. We ended up getting a few postcards, matches, a pin, and some hot sauce. Then it began to storm. We did some of the outside trail on the grounds and then went into the truck to wait it out a bit. The grounds are so beautiful and well kept. They're even adding more to the trail on the upper section. After 5-10 minutes the rain slowed down and we got back out to do the reflection part of the trail. Stunning and so peaceful.
We went to get food at the blue canoe. They're known for the music. Unfortunately the music on the weekends doesn't start until 9:30pm and we weren't going to be around that long. So we just grabbed a bite to eat and got to see all the neat decor. The food was really good.
Went back into Tupelo and went to the battlefield. Still raining. Our last stop was the homecoming statue of Elvis. Tupelo is so nice. I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was lol. You could definitely spend a weekend here.
Now it's my turn to pick a movie. I'm thinking an Elvis one. We went through a phase where we watched a bunch of Elvis interviews, documentaries, and YouTube videos about him. I know that there is a newer movie out about him but it looks like they'll be pushing some type of agenda. Gives me weird vibes lol. So I might just search for a movie based in Mississippi.
