Getting to Burkesville

Woke up early to tear down camp and head to the dump station. The cats were already a lot more calm compared to other travel days. Dumping and everything didn't take long. I originally had us overnighting somewhere to get to Kentucky but Joe wanted to do the whole 6 hours in a day. So we stayed at Wall Doxey last night too.

The drive was nice and easy. I was looking at reviews from other travelers and one guy mentioned there being twists and turns and narrow roads. He said it was "white knuckle" so I was worried. Turns out this guy probably doesn't go many places or does extreme research to make sure he has an easy shot to wherever he's going. The roads were fine. Thank god lol.

This was the first travel day that both of the cats were close to completely fine. Figaro stayed in his cage and slept. He only freaked out once and it was with one more hour to go. I think he was just antsy. He was also looking out the window and that makes him uncomfortable. I got him back in his cage and he was fine the rest of the way. He was such a good boy. Cherry is way more comfortable now. She only freaked out once in the beginning and it was when we hit the highway. After that she laid on my lap, sat on the center console, watched Joe drive, looked out the windows without freaking out, and took a small nap in the backseat. I'm so thankful.

It's supposed to storm and rain here all week. I feel like we are just following the bad weather wherever it goes now lol. This state park is super nice. There's a camp store with mini golf. They have a golf course too. We aren't into golf but it looks like a really nice course. Kind of tempted to play a round 😂 They have multiple trails and the most known one is named Eagle's Point. It overlooks a lot of Dale Hollow Lake. There's laundry at this one in the bathrooms as well. They have a lodge and a marina. You can rent jet skis and pontoon boats. That would be fun but with the unpredictable weather, I don't think we will be able to. Everyone has mentioned the restaurant in the lodge so we might try that out one day. There's a bait shop down the road that apparently has the best ice cream. All the bait shops in this area also serve breakfast and lunch. Kind of strange lol.

We went into the little town to do grocery shopping. Closest Walmart is 1 hour away. Mainly because you have to go around the entire lake. This lake is 62 miles in length. It's in Tennessee and Kentucky, it's huge.  The lake is here because of the creation of the reservoir. Which resulted in submerging of a town named Willow Grove. In 1942, the town was purchased by the government in order to create the reservoir in accordance with the Flood Control Act. People scuba dive down to the old school building. I feel like groceries here have been the most expensive so far along our travels.

Today is Tuesday and I did all of the laundry. I had to go to two separate bathhouses. Each bathhouse had 2 washers and dryers. The one I was using was in the horse camper section and the other was the one closest to our campsite. The ones by the horses were super nice but didn't have a second dryer. The ones by us were alright and someone else was using the one already. It's always a good feeling to have clean laundry.

We attempted to hike Eagle's Point but we ended up getting rained on. It actually stormed pretty bad about halfway through. Winds felt like they were up to 25 mph. Branches falling, one just missed me on the way back. The lightning was definitely super close. One looked like it was right by our trailer. We made it back and the awning was still in one piece. Cherry was watching to storm from the window when I got in. Figaro was in his safety blanket spot. So we ended up staying in for the rest of the day. Had a good dinner, played some Farkle, and got our tickets for our tour of Mammoth Cave on Sunday. I honestly didn't know you needed tickets. I thought you could just go lol. Joe failed to mention this so we were limited on which tour we could do. Most of the tours had no availability or only one ticket left.
