❇ Our favorite Airbnb stays ❇
We've used Airbnb plenty of times. These are a few of our favorite unique stays!
This tipi by the river in Howard, OH!
We stayed here in 2020 and had a blast. You are right next to the Kokosing River. We had a wooden platform and a picnic table with a charcoal grill. Fire ring and two chairs. But bring your own firewood. The host included blankets, heaters, mini fridge, couch, bed, ac unit, fan, games, themed decorations, free parking, smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm.
Getting to the actual tipi was a little tricky. I remember it being hard to find and we ended up asking some locals that were outside of their house if they knew where the property was. There are signs but they are hard to find. There were also RV spots up the little road from the tipis. This is where the bathrooms were. Nothing special. Just your typical park bathroom.
It rained the first couple hours we were there. The rain sounded super soothing in the tipi. We played games until it stopped. Did some exploring around the property. You're not a far drive from Honey Run Waterfall. There's trails here as well. We came across a man with his easel and he was painting the waterfall in real time. That was pretty neat. The waterfall itself is gorgeous. Mohican is close by too. We didn't go there because I don't care much for Mohican.
One night we went to the nearest bar and got a bite to eat. I can't remember the name of the place for the life of me and it's not coming up on Google lol. There was a live band playing (The something Brothers, I'll have to ask Joeπ ) It was a father and son duo. They did a lot of covers and played good music. They invited us to their next show the following day.
So the next night we decided to go to Indian Bear Winery. I just searched the winery on Google and it says they are temporarily closed. We had a great time. Food was good and the people we ended up sitting with were family members of the band playing. We all had some laughs and sang along to the music. At the end of their little concert Joe and I became total band members. We helped the band pack up all of their stuff and hauled everything into the van for them lol. They invited us to another show but unfortunately we could not make it. We still have their CD somewhere.
Overall the tipi was amazing and had everything we needed. It's more so camping with a little side of glamping. Let's see if I can find some pictures;
This is a treehouse we stayed at in Germantown, KY!
Came here in January of 2021. There are other treehouses on this property and they just got done turning the school bus into an Airbnb! We stayed in more of an off-grid treehouse. This is more like camping as well. They had beds, blankets, headlamps, flashlights, power boxes, ac unit, heaters, fire pit, books, toys, games, cooking basics, gas stove, kettle, coffee maker, hammocks, charcoal grill, water and an outhouse.
We enjoyed a fire the first night while listening to music. We explored the inside of the double treehouse. We later on discovered that Pete Nelson built the one treehouse on the property. This was super exciting for Joe because he loved Pete Nelson and his show on TV. He even remembered this episode. I never heard of Pete but fell in love with him as well once I started his treehouse show on Discovery plus.
The next day was spent exploring the entire property. There is so much to do here. We had a blast. We hiked all of the trails, played in the creek, hungout in hammocks, found the settler's cabin that is from the 1800's, found the gnomes on the hobbit trail and went to the enchanted forest with a bunch of wind chimes and artwork in the trees.
We met Shelly along our way, she was super sweet. We went out to eat somewhere nearby. Nothing special. Had another fire and fell asleep to the animals living in the trees. You can hear every critter when you're in the treehouse. I think there were also raccoons fighting at one point lol. I hardly took any pictures of the treehouse. There wasn't the best of service and I didn't want to be on my phone much. I have a video but it's too long to upload here lol. So click on the link and look at their pictures π
(If you like treehouses we also stayed in one in Berlin, OH- Amish Country in 2020. Not an Airbnb though. This place was also amazing and close to Dundee Falls!)
And lastly we have this cellar house that we stayed in January of 2022 in Walton, WV!
We loved this place! There's a treehouse you can stay in on the property as well. Getting here was a little rough. West Virginia country roads are no joke lol. The host provided bed, blankets, heaters, kitchen with basic utensils, ac unit, fans, mini fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, a s'mores basket, charcoal grill, hemp products that were made by them and a fire pit. This was also more so camping! There is an outhouse and outside shower fenced in.
We spent the first day on the property. We hiked with their three dogs. They led us through the woods and to the waterfall grotto! This was truly an experience. They had chickens and kittens on the property as well. We met Rob and got to talk with a him a bit, cool guy. His wife was the one who left the hemp goody basket for us. The next night we went to the closest hole in wall bar and they had live music going. I was sitting next to the lead singers wife and we became friends. Joe and I hungout with them once they were done. They played all of our favorite artists. He did great covering Tyler Childers. Apparently he was a contestant on American Idol. His wife told me the whole story of them showing up to her house to film and how embarrassed she was lol.
Again, I didn't take the best pictures here either π
