We are going on the Pictured Rocks Cruise today. Originally we were scheduled to go yesterday but they cancelled because of the super high winds.
On the way there we ordered a pizza from one of the local pizza shops, Main Street Pizza. Another thing I love about Iron Mountain is that there are no chains here. One Taco Bell, Wendy's, Walmart, and Home Depot but every other business is local and majority of people that live here only buy local.
We got green pepper and pineapple (my favorite)
The best pizza I ever had. Delicious and really hit the spot.
Once we got to the dock for the cruise we had three hours before the cruise itself. I read that if you wanted a good spot on the top deck you had to get in line one hour before boarding. So we went to the gift shop and got a few things. Walked around by the water and checked out a few small stores nearby.
Boarding was 6:30 and we got in line around 5:10. There was already a line of people. This is the sunset cruise so it is pretty popular with photographers. For many reasons.
For the best views we would have to be in the back on the right side on the top deck. Once we got on, we got the exact seat that we wanted. Whew.
Incredible. The U.P is simply stunning. The perfect night for this too. Not too hot, not too cold. Clear skies. Some of the sights we stopped at were; the mid 19th century lighthouse on Grand Island, Indian Rock, Battleship Rocks, Rainbow Cave, Castle Rock, Lovers Leap, Miners Castle, and Spray Falls. There were multiple coves along the way and the captain decided to take our 70 foot boat into one with about 10 feet on either side of us. The walls of the cove towering 100 feet above us. On the ride back we watched the sunset over Lake Superior. The trip was about two hours total.
The GPS had us going a completely different way back. Which was nice because it was all different and backroads. I saw multiple Moose Crossing signs. Sadly didn't spot any moose lol.
